Award-winning author Rev. Frank Chikane to respond to criticisms levelled at Thabo Mbeki's presidency as part of the Knysna Literary Festival

Author Rev. Frank Chikane will be appearing at the Knysna Literary Festival as part of "The Things that Could Not be Said" political presentation on 21 March from 12h00 - 13h30 at the Simola Hotel & Spa.

Born and raised in Soweto, Chikane is a former Secretary of Cabinet and Head (Director-General) of the Presidency. He has a dramatic past, including being at different times imprisoned, tortured, issued with a series of banning orders by the apartheid regime, and barely escaping death when he was targeted and poisoned by a hit team.

His tell-all book, "Eight Days in September" refers to the eight-day period in September 2008 when Thabo Mbeki was removed from office as the President of South Africa. At the time, Chikane was Secretary of Cabinet and Head (Director-General) of the Presidency and in that capacity he was responsible for managing the transition from Mbeki to Kgalema Motlanthe, and then on to Jacob Zuma. He thus had a front row seat to the unfolding drama and was one of very few insiders to be party to the transition in such a unique way.

Since its release in March 2012, the book has been creating waves and its Johannesburg launch was attended by over 500 guests, including Julius Malema.

These days Chikane is a Pastor of the Apostolic Faith Mission of SA (AFM) in Naledi, Soweto, the President of the AFM International, and is involved in business, including offering an advisory service to companies that do business on the African continent.

Tickets are priced at R100 per person and can be purchased via EFT.
